The WOMAD Festival was set up by a group of people in 1982, including music legend Peter Gabriel and WOMAD’s Artistic Director Thomas Brooman, and over the years WOMAD has evolved as a unique international festival identity, treasured by many as an institution on the alternative festival scene. In 2008 alone there will be festivals in seven countries, and since 1982 there have been over 150 festivals in 27 different countries. As well as its truly worldwide mix of music, WOMAD offers festival-goers the opportunity to sample over forty different types of food from all over the globe. Its also one of the only festivals that can truly be called a family event. Not only does one adult ticket allow two children under the age of 13 to attend the festival for free, there are extensive children’s activities and entertainment throughout the weekend

This year the festival returns to the same site, but things are a little different! The main entertainment area, consisting of seven separate stage and workshop areas, moves further up the festival site, allowing a greater space for camping. With the addition of another stage, and a greater selection of the world’s food, WOMAD 2008 is set to be the greatest yet.
